A lot of money exchanges hands through digital wallets and card swiping these days. But going old school and stacking paper bills to tally income and expenditure accounts every month-end is ridiculous. We picked out the best apps that will help you cut the red tape and manage money on your fingertips. One of them even supports Paytm!

Best finance management apps MvelopesThis is our favourite pick for managing personal finances and spending within one’s means. Mvelopes is based on the “envelopes budget” system, a common, age old practice in households. You can set up “envelopes” under various categories like “Grocery Shopping”, “Rental payments”, “Insurance premium”, etc. and pre-allocate budget to each of them. So every time you pay it forward, the respective envelope in the app reflects the subtraction, real time. Should you overstep and overspend, it disapprovingly shows figures in the red. Just the perfect check for spendthrifts!

The only drawback though is that you can only sync credit cards, not debit cards. Plus the app takes its own sweet time to set up.

Expense Manager

Expense Manager finance management app

Now here’s an app that offers generously extensive features. Not only can you set up daily, weekly, monthly and annual budgets, but can also set alerts to pay bills and rent on time. Businessmen who often travel abroad can make use of its currency converting feature as well.

The menu and page categories are all encompassing and full on comprehensive. We feel the app goes overboard with the bucketing and labelling. While it is a hit among Company CAs for this very reason, it might overwhelm other users and throw them off while navigating. So much happening on one page! We give it full points for the devilish details and enthusiasm though.

Spendee Finance management budget app pocket money

Spendee is the popular favourite among students and youth. Colourful and simple, it makes money management fun. Keeping track of pocket money is smoother than ever! With pie charts, colour palettes and visual icons galore, its easy-to-use, simple interface gets down to business right away, minus glitches.

It works only manual inputs though. So regardless of cash or card transactions, you have to physically input records into the app. Teenagers obsessed with selfies can snap pictures of their receipts and upload them onto Spendee for quickly recording all their impulsive purchases. A paid upgrade to the free subscription allows users to create joint wallets with friends and family. Instant messaging on any app always does the trick! It sure gets our vote for the best user interface. You might as well friend it on Facebook!

Monefy money management app budget

If you are new to the budgeting app scene, then Monefy will ease you into the process. It is a lightweight and intuitive app with a clean layout, simple interface, iconography and colour coded labels. Besides bank accounts and cards, it syncs to your Pay Pal accounts as well.

When you are in another country, a one time manual conversion to the respective currency will record all subsequent transactions in the new currency, saving you the math. Upgrading to the Pro version (Paid) allows you to sync it with Dropbox.

But if you aren’t exactly a noob, then give this a miss. Its too basic in that regard.
